Sleek Packable Backpack Kicks Off WaterField Packable-Bag Month in Time for Summer Travel
WaterField’s new crowdsourced Packable Backpack sports a hi-tech water- and wrinkle-resistant custom textile and liner, packs into its own pocket, and looks sleek enough to wear every day. The ultra-comfortable backpack is the first of WaterField’s four forthcoming featherweight, highly-functional, professional-looking packable travel bags, created with input from over 1,000 customer design participants.
The new Packable Backpack is set apart by a high-tech, water-resistant, lightweight yet rugged, breathable, composite material that remains sleek and unwrinkled even after it has been folded and compressed. Although designed for travel, the backpack’s clean design suits any environment from a hike or trip to the farmer’s market to a nice hotel or professional workplace.
“So many packable bags fold down small, but when you unpack them, they look like a suit you slept in,” said company owner Gary WaterField. “Our new packable backpack looks clean and professional and actually has some nice shape to it. We created our own textile mix that is lightweight but substantial and wrinkle resistant. The end result is a comfortable backpack that packs small but doesn’t look like a packable bag. It’s sleek, comfortable, and durable enough to use every day.”
Straps on WaterField’s Packable Backpack are lined with lightly padded mesh that wicks away moisture and keeps shoulders comfortable throughout the day. A vertical, zippered pocket can be accessed by swinging the bag around on one strap to the front; it conveniently stows sunglasses, keys hooked onto a sewn-in key fob, and other quick-access gear. Two deep side pockets hold up to 3.5-inch diameter water bottles, snacks, or an umbrella.
The main compartment is accessed by dual-zip weatherproof zippers with custom metal sliders that can be locked together for added security. When in use, a zippered interior pocket keeps valuables secure and when not, the backpack can be folded inside it and zippered shut.
The new foldable backpack is made from a custom combination of soft-to-the-touch, fine-textured Taslan nylon laminated with tricot fabric for structure, and lined with silver, diamond-patterned, ripstop nylon that illuminates the interior and is easy to clean. A custom micro-porous coating repels water and wrinkles but allows breathability.

“I like to bring the Packable Backpack when I travel so I can use it as my day bag and leave my heavier bags at the hotel. It’s also great when I need to bring home more than I packed,” explained Waterfield. “ When I’m not traveling, I use it to run errands, hike, or even go into the office.”
WaterField incorporated input from over 1,000 design participants in its new Packable Bag Collection. The WaterField Packable Backpack joins a full line of backpacks for work, travel, and leisure.
