X-Air Duffel

Bought this recently for a series of short trips for which I did not wish to bring a larger carryon. And because I enjoy nice bags, have the Waterfield sling in the same color way, and appreciate fine craftsmanship.

Overall I am happy with the purchase and the product. The waxed canvas is stout and sturdy, the leather classy and easy to patina. The fidlock buckles are … fiddly. They take a bit of dexterity one handed, are slightly awkward if you don’t get the right angle or have any sort of finger / hand arthritis as my early aging bear claws seem to, but are otherwise quite secure and classy.

Frankly, I prefer stouter clasps to latch the shoulder strap, but of course appreciate the swivel. These are capable, but don’t quite match the aesthetic of the bag.

Space is what it is. Either this size works for you or it doesn’t. It is well suited to a couple or few days clothing depending on your general size. As a 6’6” and 210 pound fella, I have been able to pack two to three pairs of pants, a set of matching shirts, undershirts, socks, and the most amusing Duluth Trading buck naked skivvies a 42 year old man could have. And my laptop, cable case, a small sampling of toiletries in the aforementioned front pockets, and a few various odds and ends without overloading, stretching, or deforming the bag at all.

I would have liked to have seen some foam or rigidity to the main cargo hold perimeter wall. The wall becomes floppy when unzipped and unfilled and does a spare hand to finagle from time to time, but that is not a deal breaker. It would also help hold this bag’s most attractive profile when not fully loaded.

Price is consistent with hand made American bags. And some production made foreign bags. Sure, it’s a bit of a chunk to bite off, but it is good quality if you value craftsmanship and longevity and frequenting small businesses owned by people, not conglomerates.

Love the bag. Will be back for more in the waxed canvas and chocolate leather colorway as needed. And as budgets allow.

Exactly what I needed as carry-on with a one-year old baby 😊

I love this bag! The quality and craftsmanship of this bag is top notch. It’s perfect for throwing my laptop and iPad in the bag along with all of my other tech items I travel with on a daily basis. I have plenty of room to spare for a change of clothes or whatever I need to carry with me. Aesthetically, the bag is so attractive and stylish. Its exceeded all my expectations.

I waited to get a couple of flights under my belt before reviewing the bag. It fit perfectly under the seat in front of me on both aircraft I've used it on, including a 737-800 and A319. It's very convenient to access my water bottle while under the seat, as well as items in the areas next to the pass through, the rear pocket and the front Fidlock pockets. The light weight of the bag is great. On international flights, where weight is a factor, this bag can easily carry more than average.

I also use it as an everyday bag on my commute and appreciate that it has a lot of room for my tech items, including a MacBook Pro 16, iPad Pro 11, and related gear. I typically put a 1.5L Nalgene in one pocket and my coffee travel mug in the other one. The Fidlock buckles are very nice and I wouldn't want any other type of fastener on the front pockets.

Overall, I recommend it for both air travel and commuting. Waterfield's quality, as always, is top notch, and their warranty can't be beat. It's great to see that it is made in the U.S.A. by a small business that takes good care of their customers.
